EXHIBITION CLOSING RECEPTION: THE ILLUSTRATED LOVER’S DISCOURSE

Reservations are required. keith@rarenestgallery.com or 708-616-8671

Please join Rare Nest for the closing reception of “An Ilustrated Lover’s Discourse” - an installation by Keith Bringe with a multi-channel sound piece by Ed Herrmann. We will also reprise the adapted, low-light systems for this event.

Roland Barthe's "Fragments d'un Discourse Amoreux" was published in Paris by Editions du Seuil in 1977. A mainstay in linguistic studies, "A Lover's Discourse" comprises 80 'fragments' - chapters - that illuminate the anatomy of desire with references from Goethe, Plato, Freud, Gide, Zen philosophy and more. Bringe interprets the book through 80 constructions, combining painting, drawing, objects, and photography. The assemblage recalls cabinets of curiosity and the work of Joseph Cornell. This is the first, public exhibition of a work in progress, slowly developed over a decade.
